IATF 16949 is Quality Management System for organizations in the automotive industry.

On October 3rd, 2016, IATF 16949:2016 was published by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) by superseding and replacing its previous version which was a technical specification issued by ISO as ISO/TS 16949:2009; hence, defining the requirements of a Quality Management System for organizations in the automotive industry.

It was developed by IATF in cooperation with Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG).

IATF 16949:2016 (the 1st edition) issued by IATF serves as an innovative document which brings together standards from across Europe and the U.S., outlining everything required for achieving best practices while designing, developing, manufacturing, installing or servicing the automotive products.

IATF 16949:2016 is not a stand-alone quality management standard, but is implemented as a supplement to, and in conjunction with ISO 9001:2015.

Certification to IATF 16949 is mandatory for organizations who wish to manufacture parts for the automotive industry.
